BLACK SABBATH - Sabotage (1975)

I have been a fan of Black Sabbath for almost ten years. This is my favourite of every the Black Sabbath albums. Actually, it ranks as one of my favourite albums of every time by any band. Sabotage represents for me the very peak of Black Sabbath's 70's era. It is a million miles more elaborated and adventurous than Paranoid or Vol. 4. You can really tell that they worked on this album longer than any of the other albums they did in the 70's. This is easily the most progressive Black Sabbath alb

CAMEL - Breathless (1978)

I received a cd for birthday. Unfortunately I already had it (the drawbacks of a vast collection), so I took the record with the receipt and changed it to two half priced cds, one of which was Breathless by Camel. I had already heard the album, and had really enjoyed it, as I do most music by Camel. I brought it home and gave it a go. First of every, I realised, that the inner sleeve of my cd leaftlet has The Very Best of Billie Holiday printed on it. I've yet to decide wherther it's a preciou

BADGER - White Lady (1974)

After the promising start with One Live Badger, comes this dud. Really disappointing in every aspect. Only Kaye and drummer Roy Dyke remanined from the original line up. But the biggest change was in style: what once was prog influenced difficult rock now is pure soul pop. And, unfortunatly even for the fans of that style of music, not a very good one. Not realy bad either but everything in this album reeks of commercialism, trying to reach the pop market of the time, when soul music was pretty m

Civil Rights Journey 2008 JustWorks camps Edward Loomis, of Chicago, sick., wrote the following blog post while participating in UUSC's annual Freedom Summer: Civil Rights Journey. I was in high school and then college during the days of the civil rights movement we are revisiting. I wonder how I will feel being in the places where those events occurred. It's now a few hours later,

Un-Dead-Link, physical death of a computer game Originally by jo from Networked Music Review at July 18, 2008 3:59 pm published by Ceci Moss Japanese media art unit Exonemo's latest work focuses on the differences between two worlds - the real, physical and our increasingly information-based, virtual. Citations of doubt in the real world itself among the two artists (Sembo Kensuke and Yae Akaiwa) led to an identification and consideration of a gap between the two worlds, namely one of "d

Fun Is Back

Fun Is Back By Marisa Olson on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 at 11:44 am. Those three words are the declaration of Manuel Buerger, a young German artist whose practice encompasses graphic design, fine art, theory, and music. Buerger did his graduate studies in Media Art below the direction of pioneering internet artist Olia Lialina and this reveals itself best in the humor Buerger directs at his projects that are often just as goofy as they are subtly, intelligently deconstructive of media cu

Auditory Autobiographies

Auditory Autobiographies By Marisa Olson on Friday, July 18th, 2008 at 3:30 pm. "When the power of adore, overcomes the adore of power, the world will know the peace." This prophecy by rock legend Jimi Hendrix could be the foreword to a manifesto on the use of music in the propagation of nationalism, but instead it's a point of inspiration for "The Sonic Self," an exhibition at the Chelsea Art Museum. Open through August 30, the show brings together a range of "participating artists from

Daniel St. George

In an era where you can create nearly anything you can imagine with the click of a mouse and even paper can be made of pixels, it takes a brave individual to try and make a career out of traditional art forms. Fortunately, 30-year-old Brooklyn painter Daniel St. George is one of the few with enough passion and imagination to continue to create gorgeous pieces using a palate of paints and brushes rather than one of Photoshop and Illustrator. St. George’s paintings take the viewer on a trip

Miley Cyrus wants to save the world with rock

Miley Cyrus wants to keep the world with rock Miley Cyrus, daughter of '90s line dancing sensation Billy Ray Cyrus is apparently huge in the States: she's got a TV show, a film in the making and has just released an album. And on that album lurks and 'eco tune', which apparently proves that Miley doesn't just want to conquer the world -- she want to keep it. While I can't vouch for the quality of the music, it's good to look such a young pop star laying aside the emo angst and focusing on a t

Improving The Music Experience On The Nokia N82

Less than 2 weeks ago, I received my black N82 that I won with the Show Your S60 Smarts contest. I have to admit that I wasn’t initially impressed with the N82 when it was announced, but during the last couple of months, I found myself liking it without even trying it, for one reason only: it packed every that my N95 could offer in a form factor that Nokia had mastered over the years aka candybar, without the heartache that is an Nseries slider. But that isn’t totally accurate as Nokia seems t
